2010 Fencing Classes at CAA

“DISCOVER YOUR INNER CHAMPION!”

FOR CHILDREN: AGES 7 - 9

YOUNG BLADES

For the youngest students, no starter course is necessary since we introduce a very basic understanding of body stances, footwork, and bladework using high-tech plastic foils with buzzers in the tips and special masks. These young fencers can practice and put it all together – without a lot of extra equipment and training during 10 mins of stretch and 35 min classes that prepare them for the next level at age 10. Start anytime!

Students may enroll for one regular class per week for 45 mins each. This class meets on Thursdays from 5:15 - 6pm.

 FOR YOUTH: AGES 9.5 - 12

YOUTH FENCING

For the younger students, we make real progress by building upon the fundamental techniques introduced in the Starter Course, developing solid movement skills, and becoming familiar with the terms, rules, and structure of the Modern Fencing experience. Solid growth comes from training during regular class and application in regular sparring.

Students may enroll for one to two regular classes per week for an hour each. Regular group class times are Tuesday and /or Thursday from 6 - 7pm.

FOR TEENS & ADULTS: AGES 13 - UP

TEEN / ADULT FENCING

For the older student, skills are strengthened and knowledge expanded with regular group classes and weekly sparring. Once the Trial has been completed, you will solidify fencing concepts, hone reaction times, and drive towards entering local and regional competitions. Whether beginner or advanced, regular practice and drilling engenders serious results as you improve and stretch towards personal fencing goals!

Students may enroll for one to two regular classes per week for an hour each. Regular group class times for beginning fencing students are Tuesday and /or Thursday from 7 - 8:30pm. Students who have attended at least a month of classes should come from 7 - 8:30pm for stretch and warmup, lessons and sparring from 8:30 - 9:30pm.

FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL FENCERS

AFTER SCHOOL FENCING

If you are a High School age fencer, you may come to a new after school training option: Thursdays from 3:45 - 5pm. Mix with other HighSchool fencers from the area and beef up your skills. Network with area fencing friends and help grow the HighSchool fencing community!

FOR HOME SCHOOLERS

HOME SCHOOL FENCING

Homeschool students have a special opportunity to gain a half-credit in a unique and fun sport: FENCING!

Fencing has been an original Olympic sport since 1896, contested at each Olympics, and was one of only a few Olympic sports to allow paid professionals in the Olympic Games. Did you know that James Naismith, the inventor of Basketball, was Fencing Master before he created the ever-popular game of hoops? One could ALMOST say that without Fencing, there would BE no basketball! Wow! Learn much more about the history and interesting people of Modern Fencing by signing up for the newly established HomeSchool Fencing Program! If you are an MHEA member, talk to us about a special discount!

Fencing is very much the kind of sport many homeschoolers would be interested in and at least, like to try. Wednesdays, from 2 - 3:30pm.
