GYR Competitions!
'GET YOUR RATING' COMPETITIONS
For all UNRATED fencers who wish to fence and receive the chance to BECOME rated, I'm going to do the following: a once per month "GET YOUR RATING" competition.
If we have at least SIX unrated fencers who pay an entry fee and are members of the USFA, then the 1st place winner will receive an "E" rating within the TN Division. Once we have built up several E fencers, we can start attempting a regular D-rated event - this requires 15 or more fencers (1st Place receives "D" and 2 - 4 receive "E"'s). Doing this will REALLY help raise the rating possibilities with local competitions and invite other rated regional fencers to attend our events.
RATED FENCERS or OTHERS:
For any fencer who HAS a rating or doesn't wish to compete - you NEED to participate by scorekeeping, timekeeping, and DIRECTING. Learning to referee will help your fencing a LOT. Plus it will help you to really understand how the system works at a major competition like an NAC or JO Championships.
PARENTS:
For PARENTS, you can ALSO learn how to scorekeep, timekeep, and even direct - simply start helping/watching and learn the rules. It's not that hard to understand. Certainly you can help to direct EPEE since it is the easiest to referee...
to register for the April GET YOUR RATING Competition - Saturday April 25 beginning at 4pm. We will have UNRATED Y14 Epee and UNRATED Mixed Epee.
NOTE: Only 6-8 fencers will be accepted for the YOUTH EPEE and only 6-12 fencers will be accepted for the MIXED EPEE. So register early to ensure your spot. If you don't get in this time, don't worry - each month we will have a new GYR Competition opportunity. In fact, the next GYR Competition is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, May 17, beginning at 2pm...
Encourage friends and family members to come and cheer you on, take video, bring first aid kits, etc....
