The purpose of the Get Your Rating (GYR) Monthly Competition Series is to offer a regular opportunity to our local - most certainly, OUR club/school - fencers to gain an official classification without having to travel, without having to to place, and without having to beat already-rated fencers!
Our second GET YOUR RATING competition was held on Sunday, May 17. The Mixed Foil had 8 entrants while Youth Epee only had 4 fencers. We had planned to hold a Mixed Saber event but we were unable to make the minimum number of 6 fencers...
We started both events simultaneously in different rooms with regular CAA fencers helping to direct and keep score. Families of several fencers attended and all in all, a great time was had!
The results can be found at this page here.
In Youth Epee (a non-ratable event), 4 young CAA fencers competed for first place. The final DE bout came down to Jake Doan and Grayson Harber...with Grayson Harber gaining the victory! Congratulations Grayson!
As with our last GYR in April, this competition also brought in a visiting fencer. We had a young Michigan fencer named Jimmy Hu join us this time. Jimmy did great and showed us how they do it up in Michigan - he's fast and shows great potential! Look for his name in the years to come at National events!
Mark Pinkston managed to prevail over the pack with lightning attacks, acrobatic ripostes, and deceptive footwork to secure FIRST PLACE! Congrats, Mark:
You GOT YOUR RATING!
Congratulations to all GYR II Fencers!
Next Month: GYR III: EPEE!
